Key Characteristics

• Solventless: No chemicals, water, or solvents are used in the extraction process, preserving the natural cannabinoid and terpene profile of the original plant.
• Texture and Appearance: The final product is a fine, sand-like powder, often pale gold or sandy blonde in color. Green hues indicate unwanted plant contamination.
• Quality: Quality is grade by its purity, with top-tier “full-melt” dry sift melting almost completely when heate, leaving little to no residue.
• Potency: Dry sift hash is potent because it is a concentration of the plant’s active compounds. Its strength depends on the original strain used and the refinement process. 

Production Methods

1. Preparation: Dry and cure cannabis flowers or trim are often frozen beforehand to make the trichomes brittle and easier to separate.
2. Sifting: The material is gently agitate or rubb over a stack of mesh screens (sieves) with progressively finer micron sizes (e.g., 120µm down to 73µm).
3. Collection: The trichomes (kief) fall through the screens and are collecte from the bottom layer.
4. Refinement (Optional): Techniques like “static tech” use static electricity (from parchment paper or a plastic card) to remove any lingering plant matter for a purer final product.
5. Storage/Pressing (Optional): The kief can be store in an airtight container or press into a solid brick or puck using a pollen press for easier handling. 

Consumption Methods

• Sprinkling: A simple way to boost potency is by sprinkling it on top of a bowl of flower or mixing it into a joint.
• Dabbing: High-quality, “full-melt” dry sift can be vaporize or “dabbe” using a device like a Puffco Peak for a clean, flavorful experience.
• Pressing into Rosin: Dry sift is a common input material for making solventless rosin using heat and pressure.
• Infusing into Edibles: The hash can be decarboxylate and infuse into butter or oil to create potent edibles.
